The high rate of staff turnover or attrition in the Indian software industry shows that there is a huge gap between the demand and supply of IT professionals in the country, both in the IT sector as well as in the non-IT sector. India has the competitive advantage of a large English-speaking population with an aptitude for software programming, and is poised to be an IT superpower.

The Indian IT market has grown from Rs 54 billion (US$ 1.73 billion) in 1994-95 to Rs 793 billion (US$ 16.5 billion) in 2002-03. It accounted for 3 per cent of India's GDP in 2002-03. The IT industry created employment opportunities for over 700,000 professionals in India in the year 2002-03 alone.

Experts believe, however, that this is only the tip of the IT iceberg; the industry is poised to grow at an even more rapid pace in the coming decade. The main resources employed by this industry to achieve these massive business volumes is human resources. Trained manpower is the lifeline of growth for this business. There is a massive need for quality education and training in the software field. Two particular areas are professionals who need to be retrained owing to fast-changing technology and the computer literacy market. Both offer a huge business opportunity.

CMC started education and training services for the individual segment - constituted by students and the general public - in 1993. Before that, its main clients for training were business corporations and big government departments, where it is a very well known name.

CMC computer education derives its competitive advantage from 25 years of experience in software development, hardware maintenance, value-added services and international operations. The professionals who are in charge of the Education & Training strategic business unit (SBU) have rich experience of working in big software development projects, which is translated into the quality education services provided by our franchise network. Our course content material and training methodologies are unique and very student-centric. CMC aims to see that its students learn cutting-edge technologies at a reasonable price.

To keep a tab on the quality of manpower being produced at its authorised training centres (ATCs), CMC has evolved unique student evaluation systems. It conducts the semester-end examination at the ATC location, evaluates the answer sheets, conducts practical examinations, the viva-voce for compulsory project work and provides certification to the successful students. The course is not restricted to software technology. Personality development modules are also included, because we know that the job market is ruthless and needs professionals who can deliver high quality goods.

At present, CMC franchises its eDiploma in Advanced Software Technology (eDAST). Apart from this career development course, CMC also permits franchisees to conduct popular short-term courses, corporate training sessions and some high-end courses in areas like hardware, eCommerce and Java, with pre-defined terms and conditions.

Franchisees are required to invest in space, hardware, software and manpower. More important, CMC expects that franchisees give 100 per cent of their time to running the business and are committed to the cause of student welfare.

Broadly, CMC offers franchisees the following services:
Technical know-how and support
Marketing support
Administrative support
