SCADA
and process control applications
CMCs intelligent data acquisition
and control systems are the sharpest private
eye in information technology. They keep
an unceasing watch on both digital and
analog parameters in the most exacting
industrial environments.
The
RTUs are ruggedised, industry standard
X-86 architecture-based systems and are
ideal front-ends for a whole range of
industrial process control environments.
The
units continuously monitor both analog
and digital process data. Information
on various parameters like temperature,
voltage, pressure etc., as well as particulars
of event change information on circuit
breakers and isolators is monitored and
controlled from a SCADA host. RTUs also
receive and process control commands from
the host and execute them accordingly.
They can provide interface to devices
like trivectormeters, numerical relays
and other such devices in multi-dropped
mode, log their data and pass it on to
the host through the protocol used.

Features
Rugged
design
Specially designed to work in harsh
industrial environments, the RTUs can
withstand high temperatures. The latest
CMOS circuitry gives the units high noise
immunity and keeps power consumption low.
These features ensure reliable performance
in the most demanding conditions. These
RTUs are pole / floor mountable and suitable
for installation in enclosed, harsh environments.
They are designed to withstand IEC 801
specifications for I/O modules, EMI/EMC
and IP/NEMA rating for enclosures.
CMCs
monitoring and control solutions
Modular construction
The
architecture for RTUs is modular and consists
of two basic components: the processor
module and the input/output module. Both
analog and digital parameters are supported
as I/O points by the units. The modular
design, combined with the ease of programming
allows users to upgrade the system from
a small configuration to the maximum limit,
simply by adding suitable input/output
modules.
Communication
Two
communication ports are provided as default
(one RS-232, second RS232/RS485 selectable).
Communication modules can be added on
as required and in multiples of four ports
which are selectable as either RS232 or
RS485 standards. The RTUs support various
telemetry protocols such as Modbus RTU,
Modbus ASCII, TC57, IEC870-5, IEC 870
5-1, IEC 870-5-101, DNP 3.0 etc. They
can be interfaced to the GPS receiver
for accurate time and position information,
with cell phone, VSAT with normal or radio
modem, fibre optics, etc. Any other communication
standard can also be easily provided.
Other
special features
CMCs
RTUs can provide direct interfaces to
SVGA monitor or flat panel (LCD based)
for output and conventional keyboard as
input device. This provides the advantage
of local display in SCADA applications
thus eliminating the necessity of a separate
local MMI unit. A mouse-driven Windows
kind of user interface can also be provided.
Applications
RTUs
serve as efficient front-ends for SCADA
applications in a variety of industries.
Whether in a coal/steel plant, a power
substation, a mine or along a railway
track, or an oil pipeline, the rugged
and versatile RTUs can be easily installed
and maintained and adapted to the most
diverse and demanding physical environments.
