Xilinx
centre develops 20 IP cores

Hyderabad:
XILINX, a $1.6-billion semiconductor company,
has developed 20 intellectual property
(IP) cores from its India development
centre based out of CMC in Hyderabad.
Of this 20 IP cores, one of them has an
under-the-hood technology that is used
for automotives. All applications that
go under the hood of a car can be handled
by the solution developed by Xilinx. The
company is in talks with OEMs (original
equipment manufacturers) to impement the
technology.
Along with the IP cores developed in 2004,
the Indian team has contributed about
10 per cent of Xilinx's total IP cores.
This is significant, since it is a relatively
small team.
Speaking to Business Line, the Executive
Vice-President of Xilinx, Mr Richard W.
Sevcik, said that Gartner Dataquest forecasts
project that the programmable logic devices
market is poised to grow to about 4.5
billion in 2006, wherein Xilinx accounts
"for a large share."
The Managing Director of Xilinx-CMC India
Development Centre, Mr Akshya Prakash,
said Xilinx developed 12 IP cores in the
first year and 20 cores the following
year.
The Managing Director of CMC, Mr R. Ramanan,
said CMC has been chosen as a strategic
partner to provide Xilinx solutions for
the automotive industry.
