CMC
to soon become XPERTS partner for Xilinx
Business Standard, January 6, 2006
Hyderabad:
CMC Limited will shortly become an
XPERTS partner for Xilinx, a $1.6-billion
leader in programmable logic devices.
XPERTS (Xilinx Programme for Engineering
Resources from Third Parties) is a partnership
programme with design consulting companies
that offer programmable logic design expertise
to electronic equipment manufacturers.
Xilinx had launched this programme with
26 member companies initially worldwide.
R Ramanan, managing director and chief
executive officer of CMC Limited, said,
"We are in the final stages of becoming
an XPERTS partner for Xilinx. This designation
will make us an authorised provider of
design services even to the end-customers
of Xilinx."
Akshya Prakash, managing director of Xilinx-CMC
India development centre, said, "We
see this as a logical extension of our
relationship with CMC. We have been able
to focus on technology with this partnership
and have been able to bootstrap ourselves
over here."
Xilinx-CMC India development centre has
created 20 IP cores out of the 200-250
that Xilinx has. "This means that
we have been able to create eight-ten
per cent of what the company has created
globally in just around two years of operations,"
Prakash added.
In terms of market, the Asia-Pacific region
contributes to around 40 per cent of Xilinx's
revenues as compared to around 13 per
cent, four years ago.
"At present, the market for fixed
logic devices is higher than that of programmable
logic devices, but in the next five-ten
years, the crossover point may occur.
We see a growing transition towards programmable
logic devices from fixed logic devices
because of less time-to-market and lower
cost involved in designing the former,"
Prakash said.
