Hindu Business Line, Bangalore &
Chennai, February 26, 2004
Xilinx
Inc, the $1.3-billion semi-conductor designer
and solutions provider for global chip
consumers, on Wednesday announced plans
to establish its development centre at
CMC's R&D centre in Hyderabad, the
first in Asia.
The
chairman and chief executive officer of
Xilinx, Mr Willem P Roelandts said, "This
move to establish a centre in Hyderabad
is of strategic importance for the company
since India offers a largetalent pool
and significantly brings in cost advantages."
"As
Asia has become a major centre for digital
consumer electronics, it is a natural
step for Xilinx to establish a technology
development centre in partnership with
CMC Ltd."
"The
Xilinx India Development Centre (XIDC)
would be developed on build, own and transfer
model and enable the company to expand
its presence in the Asia-Pacific region.
The region and Japan accounted for more
than 35 per cent of the total revenues
of Xilinx in the fiscal 2003. Sony, LG,
Samsung are among a host of leading consumers
of our services," he said.
The
managing director and chief executive
officer of CMC Ltd, Mr R Ramanan, said
the association with Xilinx would enable
the company to address new areas of research
and technology solutions that are required
for multiple applications and specifically
address the Asian region. While the company
did not make any commitment with regard
to the total investments likely to be
made in the Indian centre, they expected
to have about 300 in the near future.
While
Xilinx would provide management support
to the centre, CMC will establish and
run the XIDC.
Xilinx
employs over 2,600 worldwide and its customers
include Cisco, Sony, Lucent, Nortel, Agilent,
Samsung, IBM and NEC, among others.
