CMC
deploys vehicle tracking system for APSRTC,
India
Business Standard, February 9, 2004
CMC Limited has developed and deployed
a vehicle tracking and real time passenger
information system (RTPIS) for Andhra
Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation
(APSRTC) in India. The RTPIS assimilates
state-of-the-art technology, GSM/GPRS
technology and GIS. The GPS-based RTPIS
is indigenously developed by CMC at its
in-house research and development wing.
The system allows APSRTC to track the
buses by displaying the information on
a digital map at the RTPIS control center.
The drivers can both send and receive
digital messages to the RTPIS control
center which will be displayed in Telugu
and English on the vehicle-mounted unit.
The pilot implementation of RTPIS includes
26 buses within the Hyderabad city and
49 buses operating between Hyderabad-Vijayawada
and above. Vehicle-mounted units have
been installed in these buses. The display
boards located at Hyderabad, Suryapet,
Kodad, and Vijayawada provides information
about arrival of buses, type of services
and number of seats available in the approaching
bus.
