CMC deploys real-time info system for APSRTC
The Economic Times, Hyderabad, February 6, 2004

Waiting at bus terminals without knowing the exact arrival timings of buses can be a harrowing experience.

But not any more – with the use of the real-time passenger information system developed and deployed by CMC for the public transport utility, Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC).

The vehicle tracking and real-time information system has been deployed by CMC in association with APSRTC and Department of IT under the Union Ministry of IT.

The pilot implementation of the passenger information system includes 26 buses within Hyderabad and 49 buses operating between Hyderabad and Vijayawada.

The system was inaugurated by AP chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu here on Thursday.

CMC’s CEO and managing director R Ramanan said the solution assimilates GPS technology along with GSM/GPRS and GIS technologies.

The GPS-based solution is indigenously developed by CMC at its R&D centre in Hyderabad. The system facilitates and integrates the dispatch functions of communications, incident management and fleet control.

The system allows APSRTC to track the buses by displaying information on a digital map at the RTPIS control centre.
