CMC's
FACTS for NASSCOM'S security initiative
launched: Lock kiya jaaye
18
January 2006
New Delhi.: NASSCOM
launched the National Skills Registry
at the Indo-US Summit Security Summit
on 18 January, 2006
The initiative aims to improve
recruitment practices in the IT and ITeS
industry by creating, operating and maintaining
an IT professionals database. This contains
personal, qualification and career information
verified by a third party where the prospective
employer would have full access and can
view the verified resume of the IT professional.
The initiative comes in
response to the current market need of
foreign investors and MNCs with job offerings
to Indian IT professionals, and who want
to keep their jobs and data in the safe
hands of highly dependable organizations
and with the people who can be relied
upon without any security breach. Clients,
especially government or public bodies,
are understandably finicky as job seekers
would be dealing with their data and assets,
and background checks are imperative before
assignment or recruitment.
Benefits:
|
|
Resumes would be ready
for showcasing to such clients, increasing
better outsourcing/employment opportunities |
|
|
Risk of engaging any
employee on the basis of fake/forged
documents is minimized |
|
|
Background
checks conducted by NASSCOM member
companies will be available to all
other members of the industry. This
will save cost and time involved in
having background check done |
|
|
The Indian IT industry
can confidently claim higher standards
of recruitment practices and retain
its global competitive advantage.
|
NASSCOM has engaged the
services of NSDL Database Management Limited
(NDML) for creating, operating and maintaining
the database. NDML is a subsidiary of
National Securities Depository Limited,
the first depository in India. The software
has been created by CMC Limited.
CMC's biometric capabilities
CMC developed the National Skills Registry
project for NASSCOM, which showcases its
flagship biometric product FACTS - an
application that offers field-proven technology
in automation of fingerprint identification
using unique concepts in matching algorithms.
Fingerprints are field proven
and an age-old biometrics method for identification
and authentication. Adopting fingerprint
method of biometrics over a large cross
section of population is undoubtedly cost
effective over other biometrics applications
like hand geometry, retinal scanning,
iris, face, signature, voice or keystroke
recognition, DNA matching and gait. Identification
through fingerprints can therefore be
used to prevent various kinds of fraud
involving false identity.
With continuous help from
various fingerprint experts across the
country, CMC successfully
developed a full-fledged Advanced Automatic
Fingerprint identification targeted at
law enforcement agencies. CMC continued
its efforts and R&D in fingerprints
and kept on adding new features to the
software thereby raising the product to
international standards.
Till date, CMC's FACTS stands
high in the Indian market with about 300
successful installations in about 17 Indian
states and 113 installations internationally
in Mauritius and Tanzania. With wide installations
in crime-related police applications,
and increased concerns on security and
person identity in civilian and other
applications, CMC started focusing on
civilian applications wherever fingerprint
based identification and authenticity
are required.
|
"Biometrics are
becoming increasingly affordable
and we think the time is ripe for
it to enter civilian use in India"
- R Ramanan, MD & CEO, CMC
