The
National Association of Counties (NACo)
is a full-service organisation that provides
legislative, research, technical and public
affairs assistance to county governments
in USA. Created in 1935, NACo continues
to ensure that the nations 3,066
counties are heard and understood in the
White House and Congress.
CMC
and TCS participated in NACo's 69th Annual
Conference held in Phoenix, Arizona from
July 16 to July 20, 2004. More than 2,500
county officials from across the country
attended this event.
County
officials heard national speakers, including
U.S. Interior Secretary Gale Norton, Arizona
Congressman J.D. Hayworth, Washington,
D.C. Mayor Anthony Williams, Newsweek
chief political correspondent Howard Fineman,
Bishop T.D. Jakes, FranklinCovey executive
Dr. Blaine Lee and noted economics professor
Dr. Richard Florida. Conference attendees
also attended committee meetings, discussed
common issues with fellow county officials
and participated in workshops on a variety
of topics covering IT, economic development,
criminal justice, communications, energy
and governance.
CMC
also presented a paper on "IT outsourcing
challenges and lessons learned"
jointly with Charleston County. It was
presented by Mr Madhu Onteeru
from CMC and Ms Constance Berardinis from
Charleston County. Outsourcing being the
current hot issue, the workshop was very
well received by the audience. This presentation
was prominently featured in the conference
proceedings and also in some post-conference
communications. NACo's website will be
updated with the conference proceedings,
including our presentation, soon.
