ERP
for company secretaries

CMC
introduced company secretaries to enterprise
resource planning (ERP) software and its
benefits at a seminar organised jointly
by CMC and the Northern India Regional
Council of the Institute of Company Secretaries
of India (ICSI) on August 23, 2003 at
Hotel Hyatt Regency, New Delhi.
The
seminar was inaugurated by Dr N Vijayaditya,
director general, National Informatics
Centre, and the keynote address was delivered
by R Ramanan, DMD and COO, CMC.
Dr Vijayaditya enlightened the delegates
on the in-roads made by IT in the legislature,
executive and judiciary. R Ramanan stressed
the need for technical updation in the
implementation of ERP for enhanced business
growth.
Vivek Agarwal, company secretary, CMC,
who coordinated the seminar, highlighted
the availability of various packages relevant
to industry.
About
200 company secretaries participated in
the seminar, which included two technical
sessions. The guest speakers from CMC
were K C Rehani, general manager, Southern
India (chairman of the session), Amarnath
Banerjee, senior project manager, and
Snigdha Auddy, ERP consultant.
K C Rehani complimented ICSI on its thrust
towards becoming technologically savvy.
A Banerjee presented the various facets
of ERP and outlined its evolution since
the 1960s. He also explained how ERP works
for the enterprise.
Snigdha
Auddy dealt with the various practical
and technical aspects of the introduction
and implementation of ERP. She co-related
the information in a user-friendly manner
and presented the Business Process Flow
in ERP. Bhushan Mohan, General Manager,
Northern Region explained the scope of
ERP and presented a case study on Indian
Railways.
