Spiffing
up the police
August 22, 2003
The
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)
and the Bureau of Police Research &
Development (BPR&D) organised an exhibition-cum-seminar
on Police Modernisation on August 21-22,
2003, at the Hotel Hyatt Regency, New
Delhi.
At this event, CMC demonstrated the sophisticated
software offerings it has created to aid
the police force in its tasks. These included
FACTS, the fingerprint analysis and criminal
tracing system, and vCOPS, a versatile
solution for automating police operations
(see list on the right).
About 200 officers from the police and
para-military forces visited the CMC stall,
which lead to important business leads
being generated.
Among
the VIPs who visited the stall were several
senior bureaucrats, including N Gopalaswami,
home secretary, government of India, accompanied
by Harminder Raj Singh, joint secretary,
police modernisation, ministry of home
affairs, and Ramavtar Yadav, director
general, BPR&D and National Crime
Records Bureau.
A
paper on "IT for improved operational
efficiency" was presented by GSN
Prabhu, vice president, corporate business
development, CMC. This being the first
police-industry interaction at a national
level, the event received an overwhelming
response.
Some
of the speakers who praised CMC's efforts
in developing solutions based on indigenous
technologies were Kamal Kumar (Andhra
Pradesh Police), R Srinivasan (Oracle
India) and Ramavtar Yadav.
