VEDAS
is a real-time vehicle sensory system
which continuously monitors the health
of combat vehicles (such as armoured vehicles
and battle tanks) in a battalion.
The
data acquisition system (DAS) acquires
the sensor data (digital and analog) from
all the sub-systems of the combat vehicle.
The DAS part-processes the data and transfers
it (on RS485) to the embedded system controller
(ESC), which is the master and heart of
the VEDAS system. This diagnostic data
received by the ESC describes the health
status of all the sub-systems of the combat
vehicle.
The
data is then transmitted over a radio
frequency link to a mobile station, which
is another combat vehicle. The mobile
station, in turn, radios the data to a
remote station, which continuously monitors
the health of all the combat vehicles
in the battalion.
Technical
architecture, hardware and software platforms
The design is based on cPCI architecture
with MIL grade, conforming to JSS 55555
and STD-461c standards.
Experience
The VEDAS team has experience in hardware
design, software design, implementing
GUI for the simulator module and ESC in
LabVIEW, covering the whole lifecycle
of the project in the Rational Unified
Process (RUP).
