"The
wealth gathered by Jamsetji Tata and his
sons in half a century of industrial pioneering
formed but a minute fraction of the amount
by which they enriched the nation. The
whole of that wealth is held in trust
for the people and used exclusively for
their benefit. The cycle is thus complete;
what came from the people has gone back
to the people many times over."
J R D Tata
The
Tata group has a long tradition of community
service and a strong sense of corporate
sustainability. We at CMC are committed
to honouring this heritage and improving
the quality of life of the communities
we operate in.
We
work closely with the
Tata Council of Community Initiatives
(TCCI) to initiate programmes for development,
education and healthcare. We have set
up a core committee for corporate social
responsibility to spearhead our efforts
to integrate corporate sustainability
concerns into the company's values, culture,
operations and business decisions, at
all levels of the organisation.
The
corporate sustainability committee's key
focus currently is education and healthcare
for students and physically and mentally
challenged individuals, especially those
belonging to economically and socially
under-privileged sections of society.
To facilitate the implementation of these
initiatives, regional teams have been
set up under the chairmanship of general
managers.
With
the cooperation of Maitree, an organisation
of CMC and TCS employees and their families,
and CMC's Staff Recreational Club, the
corporate sustainability committee has
already launched a number of important
initiatives in the area of IT education,
awareness programmes / seminars, and blood
and eye donation camps. The committee
is also supporting non-governmental organisations
(NGOs) and institutes working for the
blind and spastics.
